"We'll have to keep an eye out for these creative talents. They've got something to say and they say it in the most unnerving way."
- CARLOS GIL ZAMORA, ARTEZBLAI
Since setting up just three years ago, El Conde de Torrefiel, has become one of the most exciting contemporary theatre groups to have emerged in recent times. After the premiere of their first three productions, La historia del rey vencido por el aburrimiento (2011), Observen cómo el cansancio derrota al pensamiento (2011) and Escenas para una conversación después del visionado de una película de Michael Haneke (2012), the latter the most critically and publicly acclaimed, the company returns in November to the Teatro Pradillo to present their latest creation. With La chica de la agencia de viajes nos dijo que había piscina en el apartamento, the group goes beyond verbal language, using literature, choreography and the visual arts to bring out the eternal dissatisfaction of contemporary society.
The holiday, seen as the absurd pursuit of a dream leisure and pleasure paradise, serves as the starting point for El Conde de Torrefiel's fourth production. La chica de la agencia de viajes nos dijo que había piscina en el apartamento, is set in the context of what are supposed to be exceptional and happy holidays to build a musical score in which bodies, words and sounds create undetermined environments which are torn between the banal and the extraordinary. Before arriving at the festival, the work will be performed for the first time at the Festival TNT in Terrassa (Barcelona) on October 4 and can then also be seen on October 23 and 24 at the Festival Salmôn in the Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona and in Bilbao's Festival BAD on November 1.
