Argentinian playwright, director and actor, Pablo Messiez, one of the most acclaimed directors working in Spain in recent years, returns to Madrid in October to present his latest production, Las palabras (Una historia de amor), in the Sala Cuarta Pared. The work, an intimate and tragicomic parable, describes with humour, tenderness and affection the corruption of language and its consequences. A true representative of the latest generation of celebrated Argentinian authors and directors, such as Daniel Veronese or Claudio Tolcachir, Messiez demonstrates once more with this production his scenographic simplicity, his particular approach to the everyday, the hegemony of the text on stage and a meticulous attention to the interpretation, halfway between comedy and tragedy, all key elements that have worked so well in other successful works such as Muda, Los Ojos or Las Criadas, to name but a few.

"Imagine any town at some point in the future. The time and the place don't matter. Imagine a man - a doctor - and various women. Their names aren't important. Imagine that reality is full of ashes - the ashes of dead bodies. Imagine a strange plague, a green and destructive illness. But yes, the reasons for all these are important." With this disturbing presentation of Las palabras (Una historia de amor), Pablo Messiez brings to the stage an extraordinary story where the protagonists have to discuss whether to rhyme or die. "In Las Palabras, it doesn't matter where we are, when we were there, or who we'll be. What's important is what we say. And how we do it," he adds.

Before its appearance at the festival, the first performance of the work is on October 11 at the Teatro Palacio Valdés in Avilés.
