Panorama

Philippe Decouflé, the enfant terrible of French dance during the 1980s, returns to Madrid with the Spanish premiere of Panorama, a composition which revisits the most successful of his works with his celebrated DCA company. Considered to be one of the great innovators of contemporary dance worldwide, this inquisitive and dynamic dancer and choreographer has taken on various styles since founding his company in 1983, alternating between intimate and grand stage productions. Always looking for new and groundbreaking experiences, Decouflé has been able to mix circus arts, video and dance like no-one else.

To put Panorama together, the French choreographer decided to go back over the history of DCA, and immerse himself in his past works. The result is a combination of selected sequences from previous successful productions (such as Codex, Petites pièces montées and Shazam! amongst others) and - for the first time since they were premiered - from a series of works produced at the beginning of his career (Vague Café and Jump, for example). The artist wanted to define his latest venture more as an evolution than a repetition. Panorama has evolved, reinventing itself, giving new life to past works. So much so that in this new guise, the female dancers replace the original male ones while a quintet interprets a piece which was originally written for a quartet and small performers develop roles which had been created for larger artists. Panorama has also led to Decouflé working again with two of his most loyal colleagues: Eric Martin, who directs the team of dancers, and Philippe Guillotel (re)designing the costumes. Together, they create yet another great stage event for the artist to celebrate.
