The total number of votes deposited excluding the null and void votes. They are divided into blank votes and votes to candidacies. It is the magnitude used as denominator to calculate the percentage of votes to each candidacy.
VOTER :
The person who exercises his/her right to vote. They can be Spanish voters of legal age who are not in any of the situations established by law that could prevent said right to vote. In the case of European and municipal elections, said right is extended to European Union residents living in Spain.
VOTES OF NON-RESIDENT NATIONALS LIVING ABROAD :
In local elections, these are counted at the same tables, while in other electoral processes they are counted by the provincial electoral boards and included in the general tally sheet in an independent roll (Electoral roll of Residents who live abroad - CERA).
VOTES TO CANDIDACIES:
Votes issued correctly by any of the electoral candidacies. The number is normally expressed in percentages of valid votes, throughout the electoral sphere and for each of the candidacies. The relationship between the different vote classification categories is the following:
Total votes = valid votes + null and void votes Valid votes = blank votes + votes to candidacies.
VOTING CARD :
Electoral form which can be requested by any voter for the purpose of accrediting, by documentary means, his/her vote at the corresponding table.
VOTING DISTRICT:
Geographic grouping of voting sections. It comprises an intermediate level between a ward and a municipality. The complete definition of a table at all levels is: electoral district, municipality, district, ward and table.
VOTING TABLE:
The Voting Table is an essential element and the basic unit of every Electoral process. The table is formed by three citizens - 1 Table chairperson and two Members - elected from amongst the people registered in an electoral section by drawing lots, provided that they are under sixty-five years of age and literate. It is an alphabetic subdivision of the electoral section. The table is comprised of a chairperson and two Members and, if possible, by accredited Inspectors. The voters can only deposit their vote at the table where they are registered (mail votes shall therefore be addressed to the corresponding table).
