Synopsis

Feature Documentary that explores the life and work of one of the greatest painters of the Spanish Golden Age. Centrepiece of the film is Francisco de Zurbarán’s (1598-1684) “Jacob and his twelve sons”, a series of 13 paintings produced at the painter’s Seville studio during the 1630s or 1640s. In the 18th Century the paintings were bought by Richard Trevor, the Bishop of Durham and have since hung in Auckland Castle, County Durham.
