MEETING THE PUBLIC

Once again, the Festival is promoting a series of face-to-face meetings with some of the artists and performers who are taking part in this year's event. These will take place in the same venue following the performance and there will be translation into Spanish where required. Entry is free on a first come, first served basis

An open discussion with Claudio Tolcachir, Daniel Veronese and Javier Yagüe

In recent years, the links between Tolcachir, Veronese and Madrid have grown stronger with both directors recognised figures in the city's theatre community. Javier Yagüe will talk about his vision as director of Madrid’s Sala Cuarta Pared.

The aim of the meeting is to establish a dialogue between the three artists and the public which will reflect on the different types of production, the experiences of each of the directors in how they go about their work and the creative possibilities born out of the exchange of ideas.

The Festival de Otoño, in conjunction with the Goethe-Institut Madrid, is paying tribute to one of the most important international stage figures

Selection of 10 photographs which form part of the Teatrodanza hoy, treinta años de historia de danza alemana (Theatre-dance today - 30 years history of German dance) exhibition.

To coincide with the performances of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, a series of films about the work of the choreographer will be presented, including the first feature-length projection directed by Pina Bausch..

Ladies and Gentlemen over 65 (Damen und Herren ab ´65`)
Director: Lilo Mangelsdorff, 70 mins, 2002. Dubbed into Spanish.
This moving documentary records the selection process for the cast of Kontakthof mit Damen und Herren ab ‘65’. The film follows the people who have given up their professional lives and taken up a completely new challenge which uses all their energy and experience to overcome a range of limits and conventions.

Direction: Lee Yanor, 17 mins, 2003. Original Version with subtitles in Spanish.
The films put forward two different views of Pina Bausch's world.

The Complaint of an Empress (Die Klage der Kaiserin)
Director: Pina Bausch, 103 mins, 1989. Original Version with subtitles in Spanish.
The first feature-length work by Pina Bausch, filmed between October 1987 and April 1989. The film features scenes in the form of a collage. The actors are members of the Tanztheater Wuppertal who, as usual, have helped to create the work through their improvisations.

THE YEAR OF GROTOWSKI

2009 has been proclaimed the Year of Jerzy Grotowski by UNESCO to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Theatre of 13 Rows in Opole, Poland, which later became the Laboratory Theatre.

The Festival de Otoño de la Comunidad de Madrid is joining in the celebration of the work of this great Polish director and father of contemporary experimental theatre by presenting a series of events in his honour in collaboration with Réplika Teatro, the Polish Embassy in Madrid and the Polish Institute of Culture.
With the collaboration of Réplika Teatro; the Polish Institute of Culture, the Embassy of the Polish Republic; Wro Art Center; Wroclaw, European Capital of Culture 2016 and Centrum Kultury Zamek.

Opening event
EL LEGADO DE JERZY GROTOWSKI (The Legacy of Jerzy Grotowski)
A round table discussion with Ludwik Flaszen, one of the founders of the Laboratory Theatre; Andrzej Paluchiewicz, actor at the Laboratory Theatre; Stefania Gardecka, Jerzy Grotowski’s personal assistant and secretary-general of the Laboratory Theatre, and Inka Dowlasz, who worked regularly with Grotowski. Also present will be David Ladra, José Monleón and Juan Antonio Hormigón, who will present the new edition of the ADE TEATRO magazine, dedicated to the work of Grotowski.

The discussion will be chaired by Jaroslaw Bielski, director of Réplika Teatro.

Exhibition: MI GROTOWSKI (My Grotowski)

In this exhibition, one of the actors of the Laboratory Theatre brings together previously unpublished photos documenting the creative joy and work of one of the greatest reformers of 20th century theatre and his actors.

Organised in collaboration with the Polish Institute of Culture, the Polish Embassy and the Teatro Español.

TALLER DE ENTRENAMIENTO PARA ACTORES EN LA TÉCNICA DE JERZY GROTOWSKI (Training workshop for actors in the methods of Jerzy Grotowski)
Given by Rena Mirecka

Rena Mirecka was one of the key figures in Jerzy Grotowski’s work and productions. Since 1982, she has pursued her own personal research in physical and spiritual theatrical expression.

Closing event: PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK PRÍNCIPE CONSTANTE
Presentation of the bilingual edition of Príncipe Constante by Calderón de la Barca, translated by Juliusz Slowacki, on which the Laboratory Theatre based its 1965 production.

The book is edited by the Grotowski Institute, with a commentary by Professor Beata Baczynska of the University of Wroclaw, Poland.
