Marta Carrasco (winner of Catalonia's 2005 National Dance Award) is one of the most original and creative figures in the world of dance today. In DIES IRAE; EN EL RÉQUIEM DE MOZART, the focus of the production is the Austrian composer's celebrated work. Fifteen actors from Madrid and Barcelona strip away the religious ritual to reveal the weakness of the truth behind it while drawing back a dividing curtain, symbolic of Marta Carrasco's personal proposal for linking the two cities. The immortality of the music challenges any sceptical viewpoint and invites the intense pain of life to be spoken, made and heard. DIES IRAE; EN EL RÉQUIEM DE MOZART goes further than a mass for the dead. It consumes and obsesses. It invokes the smell of the profane. It gives the audience no respite. It is fury, rage, impotence, fear, irreverence, beauty, risk... A good bet for the biggest of challenges.
