About the Event Rosas danst Rosas

The Song

In 1983, when Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker first performed Rosas danst Rosas (a landmark work which the Rosas company is also staging at this year's Festival de Otoño) the theatrical world was taken aback by the novelty and vitality of the ideas presented by the young Belgian choreographer. More than 25 years later, De Keersmaeker, now an established dance figure, brings her latest work to Spain, entitled The Song, which was premiered in Paris in June.

The production, featuring nine male dancers and one female, portrays a triangular relationship between a female sculptor of light, a choreographer and her dancers. According to the Rosas company's own information about the work, "'The Song' is a laboratory of sound and image, a visual and auditory world where the body in all its concreteness tries to maintain its position in a constantly changing landscape... The stage is stripped down to its bare essentials. The theatre becomes fluid, a box of stage tools, of light and breath, of waves of sound and light that each reveal a new environment. It is a theatre in which the air comes to life, where every sound has its own quality, where no more hierarchical differences are noted."
