About the Event Nunzio

Nunzio

The work of Scimone - fast and raw - is written in a strong and authentic style. The two actors are excellent: Francesco Sframeli is a delicious, charming, affectionate and fragile Nunzio, Sipiro Scimone a cynical and ruthless Pino.

- Paolo Lucchesini, La Nazione

Two loners who live together, two men on the margins of life. One always pondering strange assignments, possibly as a hired hitman. The other, shut away at home watching over the fridge and the illness which is destroying his lungs. They are the two protagonists of Nunzio, the startling first work of Sicilian writer Spiro Scimone who also plays one of the leading roles in a powerful acting partnership with Francesco Sframeli.

The two men, shut into a kitchen, sit around a table which dominates a unique environment which is at the same time house, refuge and hideout. A place in which both take cover from the world and from themselves, incapable of deciding their own destiny. One, obliged to obey the orders of an invisible boss; the other, dependent on pills and a lamp lighting up an image of the Sacred Heart, refusing to acknowledge the disease which is killing him...

Nunzio received the Italian Drama Institute's (IDI) New Writers Award and the IDI's Drama Gold Medal (1995).
