About the event La Edad de Oro

LA EDAD DE ORO

Israel Galván Galván raises flamenco dancing to the sublime and launches it into the future.

- DIARIO DEL ALTO ARAGÓN

There is no doubt that the flamenco of recent years would not be the same without the steps made by Israel Galván. The architect of refined, rigorous and intimate performances, Galván won the award for best dance production at the Premio Flamenco Hoy awards in 2005 for his work, La edad de oro.

Uniting classicism and modernity, La edad de oro (The Golden Age) of flamenco runs from the last third of the 19th and first third of the 20th century. During this period, the singing and dancing developed a quality, a purity and an exceptional creativity while always respecting the formal principles of flamenco. Along with singer David Lagos, who lovingly treasures the songs of the golden ages and Alfredo Lagos, a young guitarist from Jerez, Israel Galván combines the wisdom of the roots of flamenco and the dazzling splendour of flamenco avant-garde, displaying with energy and virtuosity new aspects of dance which in reality come from the beginning of time.

For Ramón Rodó, of the La Vanguardia newspaper, La edad de oro includes "original and outspoken statements, unexpected endings, extraordinarily joyful dancing and that flamenco perfume which clearly emerges in all of Israel Galván's performances. Seldom have three people regaled us with so much art for almost an hour and a half." In La edad de oro, Galván presents on stage "a flamenco of such beauty that it could be described as archaic, almost solemn, but whose quasi-mathematical - or rather geometrical - aspect reveals a startling modernity," according to critic Jean-Michel Coëffeur.
