In perVERSIONES, medieval melodies, laments, lieder and the songs of shamans intertwine in perfect harmony with jazz standards, Spanish copla, pop, fado or chanson, creating a borderless map which speaks to the collective memory. Inner self-control and extroversion alternate, leading to a performance full of grace and meaning. Chema Madoz (winner of the 2000 Premio Nacional de Fotografía photography prize) contributes photos to the stage setting. In his works, like those of Miranda, the everyday becomes extraordinary with an imaginative and critical vision of reality, combined with poetry and humour to provide a thought-provoking experience. Onstage, there is simply a singer, a pianist and a piano. Special effects are completely absent. Instead, meticulously designed lighting is matched to a slow mix of floating images. The piano of Miguel Ángel Alonso Mirón, classic, bold and rigorous, is no mere servant of the voice but instead a multi-tonal instrument. As the title of the work suggests, perVERSIONES gives us an idea of how to listen to popular or cult songs in a different way and experience new emotions.

The world premiere of perVERSIONES was in January this year at the Teatro Municipal de Guarda in Portugal.
