COCORICO

"Is Patrice Thibaud the world's greatest living comic?" asked Borja Hermoso, of Spain's El País newspaper, after seeing Cocorico make its debut at the 2009 Festival de Otoño. "He could be. What's certain, though, is that... with him on stage, we are happy."

Winner of a Herald Angel award from the The Herald newspaper in Scotland following a performance at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival as well as securing critical acclaim for its uninhibited humour ("one of the best shows I've seen in years," according to the critic from The Mirror and simply, "sheer happiness" from France's Le Pariscope), this tribute to the comic genre and its great performers - from Chaplin through to Keaton and from Tati to de Funès - is evidence of the dedication of the double-act created by comedian Patrice Thibaud and multi-instrumentalist Phllipe Leygnac. The new Oliver and Hardy, as they have sometimes been described, had already triumphed with Les Étourdis, by Jérôme Deschamps and Macha Makeïeff, a production which portrayed calamities in the working environment. This hugely entertaining work, which returns to the Festival de Otoño en primavera - where it shares a billing with the same team's new production, Jungles - is a fast-paced performance telling stories big and small which goes back to the roots of classic mime to create a visual universe which makes the audience explode into laughter. A cocktail of fantasy, humour and comic agility dedicated to those who are still children but, above all, to those who stopped being so years ago.

A piano, a man and his mysterious suitcase, shadows in silhouette, an actor with unlimited expression, hilarious choreographed nonsense and uproarious situations... All this (and much more) is Cocorico.
