JUR IN CONCERT

A deep, sweet voice, shouted and whispered somewhere between Lhasa and Janis Joplin. A voice which is simply unique.

JUR is neither a strange onomatopoeia nor a war cry. JUR is a resonant emotion transmitted by four "wandering" musicians whose performances are led by the magnificent voice of Spanish singer Jur Domingo Escoffet. Following their first two releases - Juste Ici (2009) and Ladrona (2010) - JUR find themselves in a constant creative process, trying out new material on stage and building on the foundations they have established since forming in 2007.

Their first appearance in Spain at this year's Festival de Otoño en primavera to promote their latest work promises to be a momentous event with the transformation of the singer into a pendulum of vocal styles moving from soft whisper to dramatic howl. "It's a very physical form of singing. The next day my voice muscles are sore!" explains Jur Domingo. Together with Julian Vittecoq (piano) and Nicolas Arnould (guitar) she presents this musical venture as a supplementary project to her circus enterprise, Cridacompany, elements of which are also present in JUR's performances which now include the presence of Jean-Baptiste Maillet on drums and percussion.

The band members' three languages - Spanish, Catalan and French - constitute yet another element in the diverse make-up of JUR, helping to provoke an invigorating sense of disorientation in the audience which is confronted with a kaleidoscope of sound of immense aesthetic and linguistic beauty. There are no rules in JUR: "Each of us has our own personal music history. We put these different styles together when we write our material. In my case, I compose by catching the words from my immediate surroundings," declares Jur Domingo, actress, comic, musician and singer, whose voice reaches depths that envelop the audience in a multiplicity of earth-like tones.
