Women who do everything they can against a destiny written by men. Women who smash against love because love crushes them at the expense of their independence and professional worth: love disguised as domination.
- JAVIER VILLÁN, EL MUNDO (11/10/2011)
According to Ignacio Amestoy, the writer of Alemania, his production "wants to be a mirror of the reality in which we live, battered by the economic crisis, which is also a crisis of values." Marta, a young and highly talented architect and Vicente, also an architect but with a long and distinguished reputation, are the protagonists. The crash in the housing market has destroyed the architectural business they ran. At the same time, a relationship built on lies quickly brings them to the point of hating each other. Marta, a modern, self-made woman, finds a new life through another job far away. Without doubt she will make it. Vicente is left to take refuge in the innocence which he has let fall through his fingers. Will he be capable of recovering it? Like the Phoenix, Vincent and Marta, have to be reborn from its ashes. "It's happening to us," concludes Amestoy.
Ignacio Amestoy's Alemania won the Premio Ciudad de Palencia (Palencia City Prize) in 2011.
