INSOMNIO

Xavier Bobés writes visual poems on the stage using every type of toy and device.

"A man who sleeps has in a circle around him the chain of the hours, the sequence of the years, and the order of the heavenly bodies". That is what Marcel Proust said about the "insomnia" which inspired the title for this latest work by Xavier Bobés and his visual theatre company, Playground.

 

Insomnio is a portrait of a man who resists the idea of tranquility. A man who, in a state of constant alert, observes his life and surroundings as if hallucinating. And he is looking for a way to survive.

 

Insomnio is a "theatre of objects" show that delves into the expressive poetry of the everyday object creating, through the manipulation of these elements, a visual spectacle in an evocative and resonant setting. The chosen objects are skeletal; all that remains is their silhouette. These objects become the indicative memories of those that have manipulated them. Sharing the stage with these objects is a character which shares this state of constant wakefulness.

 

Bobés talks about Insomnio as "the appearance of everyday objects. An appearance that can be both clear and blurred, slow or quick. The repetition of their movement. The atmosphere of that which surrounds us. And what we end up believing." The objects of Insomnio ultimately embody a landscape of the human condition, a poetic testimony to its evolution, and of our day-to-day journey.

 

The world premiere of Insomnio took place last November at the Festival Temporada Alta in Girona.
