tg STAN convierte a Schnitzler en Freud.
-LIONEL CHIUCH, TRIBUNE DE GENÈVE
"In tg STAN´s production, the actors move from one character to another on an empty stage where the Austrian artist Erwin Wurm creates mini-displays from a range of everyday objects. with an experimental coolness which, nevertheless, gives the performance a particular universality." That is how Le Monde´s Fabianne Darge described Le Chemin Solitaire (The Lonely Way) after it was premiered by the groundbreaking Belgian company at the
In the original text, written at the beginning of the 20th century, Arthur Schnitzler, a doctor by training, recalls the meeting between the painter, Julian Fichtner and a former lover, Gabriele, who he left in order to further his career. When Gabriele makes an unexpected confession, the fate of the characters takes a new turn which ends in tragedy. Eroticism, death and psychology, as well as an interest in demonstrating the moral weaknesses of the time, are always present in the works of this Austrian writer, as demonstrated in this production which tg STAN now presents in the Festival de Otoño en primavera.
It is precisely the issues around these complexities that tg STAN wants to examine. The Belgian theatre company, an intriguing collective which has no director (as a reaction to the authoritarianism this post implies), explores the pure relation between actor, character and text, and puts Schnitzler's work into its real context, the Vienna of 1900, to undertake a quasi-abstract rapprochement with Freudian overtones to the drama of the script. According to tg STAN members Jolente De Keersmaeker and Damiaan De Schrijver, it is here that the actor can exploit to the full his or her character and circumstances: "We're not dealing with a character's story but instead the story between an actor and his or her character. We need to perform on the edge of the abyss."
This production of Le Chemin Solitaire in the Festival de Otoño en primavera will be a Spanish premiere and follows a tour of France.
