Following the revolutionary show Can We Talk About This?, British company DV8 Physical Theatre returns to the Festival de Otoño a Primavera with JOHN, a captivating dance-theatre creation rated by the critic as “bold, involving and utterly unique” (Daily Telegraph); “engrossing and elegant” (Time Out); or “explosive and breathtakingly performed” (Kurier). In order to set up this piece, Artistic Director of DV8 Physical Theatre Lloyd Newson, one of the most influential artists in the present-day theatrical scene, interviewed more than 50 men asking them frank questions about love and sex. One of those men was John, whose story of crime, drug use and struggle to survive comes out onstage in an intense, biting and absolutely moving theatrical experience.
As happened with both most recent DV8 productions -To Be Straight With You (Grand Prix de Danse, Paris, 2009) and Can We Talk About This? (Helpmann Award for Best Ballet or Dance Work, Sydney, 2012; Production of the Year, Tanz Magazine, Germany, 2012)-, movement and word come together onstage to take the audience to unique and unexpected places, with impeccable technique and a surprising physicality.
JOHN's world premiere took place in Austria, at the InPuls Tanze Wien, Vienna International Dance Festival, on August 5th, 2014.
