Festival de Otoño a Primavera - From Oct 4, 2013 to june 29, 2014

Comunidad de Madrid
The Festival
Introduction

In October, we begin a new edition of the Festival de Otoño a Primavera de la Comunidad de Madrid (Autumn to Spring Festival of the Autonomous Region of Madrid). For the second year in succession, we wanted to extend the festival programme from autumn through to the following spring to enable theatregoers to spread out their visits and to reduce the risk of having to turn away leading international figures who, this year, will once more be performing at the festival.

Angélica Liddell will inaugurate the 31st Festival de Otoño a Primavera with Todo el cielo sobre la tierra (El síndrome de Wendy), a work which has made a big impression at a range of prestigious European festivals in cities such as Vienna and Avignon. We have followed Angélica for much of her professional career staging, for example, her two previous premieres which, together with this latest production, make up her Chinese trilogy.

Argentinian playwright and director, Pablo Messiez, of whom we have always come to expect the very best every time he presents his work, returns to the Sala Cuarta Pared with the dramatic comedy, Las Palabras (Una historia de amor).

Brilliant comedian Patrice Thibaud and his regular musician accomplice, Philippe Leygnac, return to the festival aiming to make both young and old wriggle with laughter with Fair Play. How could we not want to bring them back having staged their magical production, Cocorico, no less than three times?

El Conde de Torrefiel present one of the most poignant and poetic productions of recent times with the premiere of La chica de la agencia de viajes nos dijo que había piscina en el apartamento in the Teatro Pradillo. Here, undoubtedly, is a young Spanish company to watch for in the future.

The innovative magician of contemporary dance, Philippe Decouflé, is one of the other major attractions of this 31st edition of the festival. On this occasion, the French artist revisits some of the milestones of his career with his work, Panorama, together with his celebrated dance company, DCA.

From Italy, comes the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, a legendary institution which, together with Toni Servillo, one of the most charismatic and admired directors and actors in Europe, presents a major work of Eduardo de Filippo, detailing a remarkable tale of our times concerning the corruption of the human soul.

Elsewhere, the veteran Belgian collective, tg STAN, present (in French) one of English playwright Harold Pinter's most celebrated works, rahisons (Betrayal).

Renowned opera and theatre director, André Engel, is the latest leading figure to form part of our programme. It will be his first visit to the festival and he brings with him a marvellous chamber version of Leoŝ Janáĉek's popular opera, Katia Kabanova, under the musical direction of Irène Kudela.

And with that, this latest edition of the Festival de Otoño a Primavera is just about complete. Keep up to date with all the latest developments and the new events which are due to be added shortly to the programme at www.madrid.org/fo

We invite you to enjoy these theatrical offerings which will be staged in our theatres from October 2013 right through to June 2014. Have a great festival!
