Undoubtedly one of the most interesting contemporary circus companies today. Animal Religion lands at the Festival de Otoño with two proposals linked by this concept of a flawless circus, where body, sound and light all work together in a circular space. We’ll talk first about Ahir, a piece the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya commissioned, which premiered in 2020. Ahir means yesterday in Catalan, a title that lets us guess that it may be about time, an eternal and enthralling theme, albeit unsolvable and endless. The aim of the show is to dialogue with the past, making an incision on the timeline to observe it, freeze it and transform it until its continuity is reinterpreted. According to the company’s promotional text, it is a ‘bold and poetic journey, at times raw, but also fresh and always sincere. A space where memories and the imagination get mixed up.’
