About the Event La casa de la fuerza

La casa de la fuerza

She is an onstage phenomenon: modulating her voice from top to bottom, waving her arms, turning her body into what we imagine it would be like in a Greek tragedy, expressing herself through her face and hands. And she also wrote the script.

- Eduardo Haro Tecglen, El País

Angélica Liddell recalls how, on her birthday in October last year, she felt scared, angry and sad: "I was really down because of the way time had gone by. Lunch at my parents' home made me feel awful and I was only too aware that I'd lost what I loved or had loved." That same day, while looking for some sort of antidote, she joined a gym, the type of place she had always been highly critical of in the past. And it was there and then that La casa de la fuerza was born: "La casa de la fuerza is the house of loneliness," explains Liddell, "that place where one compensates for spiritual exhaustion with physical exhaustion. It's the place where we are not loved and we do non-feeling exercises to compensate for an excess of feelings. It's the place of humiliation and frustration."

Writer, theatre director and actress, Angélica Liddell, has followed a very personal stage career in which she has invented her own theatrical language made up of impossible dialectics. Abuses, literature, cinema, music, expressionism, social criticism, autobiography, purity and eschatology mark her works in a heartrending search, a search for meaning, through pain and subversion.
