About the event Delusion

DELUSION

"The most important multimedia artist of our time". That was the Los Angeles Times' unequivocal opinion on Laurie Anderson, the New York-based singer, poet, sculptor, painter, photographer, director and performer, who is admired round the world for her particular style, somewhere between humour and melancholy, minimalism and metaphorical depth, an analysis of western society and a brilliant ability to make local issues universal. Anderson, one of the most important figures in the American avant-garde, has been a pioneer in her exploration of virtually all forms of expression, constantly reflecting on language, politics or the challenges of western civilization.

Laurie Anderson now brings Delusion to Spain for the first time, a work conceived as a series of short mystery plays which, navigating the frontier between the everyday and the mythic, combines violin, electronic puppetry, music and visuals. Delusion is full of nuns, elves, golems, rotting forests, ghost ships, archaeologists, dead relatives and unmanned tankers. It tells its story in the colourful and poetic language that has become Anderson's trademark.

Inspired by the breadth of Balzac, Ozu and Laurence Sterne, and employing a series of altered voices and imaginary guests, Anderson tells a complex story about longing, memory and identity. At the heart of Delusion is the pleasure of language and, simultaneously, a terror that the world is made up entirely of words.
