About the event Estado de ira

ESTADO DE IRA

A virtuoso cast performs Ciro Zorzorli's brilliant exploration into the art of acting.

- LA NACIÓN

This ironic work by the young Argentinian playwright and director, Ciro Zorzoli, has created a real buzz in the independent theatre world of Buenos Aires. Does it make sense to keep doing theatre? Can one keep on acting? How often these days can you experience a situation in which the audience does not watch actors acting but instead becomes involved in a drama in which it is the participant? Estado de ira, the latest work by Zorzoli, encourages a serious reflection on the complex mechanics of theatrical representation and on the challenges facing actors and directors before each and every scene.

In an suburban government office, a group of civil servants are in charge of instructing substitute actors and actresses for plays presented in city centre theatres. On this particular night, they have to prepare a well-known actress for the role of Hedda Gabler in Henrik Ibsen's play of the same name, in accordance with certain "strict norms". Estado de ira is a genuine challenge, plunging the audience into the mechanics of the performance, in a process where "the acting" is character, plot and exploration all at the same time.

According to one critic: "Estado de ira is one of those productions which is worth seeing to appreciate actors of enormous talent moving smoothly through a drama-cum-comedy in the middle of an intense examination on the internal mechanisms of acting". A critical and intelligent farce in which copious quantities of drama and humour go hand-in-hand.
