About the event Jungles

JUNGLES

After Cocorico, a new work to reveal the wildly cultivated human being inside us all.

- PATRICE THIBAUD

Comic Patrice Thibaud and musician Philippe Leygnac merged their talents in Cocorico and made audiences around the world, both young and old, fall about laughing. The work, which returns to this year's Festival de Otoño en primavera, has also won international critical acclaim: "One of the best shows I've seen in years," according to the critic from The Mirror and simply, "sheer happiness" from France's Le Pariscope.

With Cocorico, Thibaud and Leygnac achieved a veritable homage to the profession of mime, full of visual poetry, hilarious and tender at the same time, which follows in the footsteps of comic greats such as Keaton, Tati, de Funès and Chaplin. Now this extraordinary duo are joined by Lorella Cravotta, who comes from the company of Jérôme Deschamps and Macha Makeïeff (who wrote an earlier work, Les Étourdis, for Thibaud and Leygnac) and together they make their foray into a new work called Jungles.

A foliate setting, an urban jungle, primitive instruments, Romulus and Remus, witch-doctors, ritual dances, Tarzan, voodoo ceremonies, The Jungle Book and Mowgli. An entertaining comparison between the humanity of animals and the animality of humans which, according to Thibaud, is "not about making the audience feel guilty by frightening them about their profoundly predatory nature but, instead, getting them to accept it with humour, tenderness and poetry, their ancient reflexes of defence and survival".

Jungles was performed for the first time in January this year at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in France.
