About the event

Alexis. A Greek Tragedy

"Its success lies in the cocktail between documentary theatre and the work's mythical dimension"

- LE MONDE

A backward glance in order to reflect on the present. That is how the company, Motus, defines the leitmotif of its project Antigone, a part of which is Alexis. A Greek Tragedy.

Alexis. A Greek Tragedy Tragedy is a documentary and poetic investigation into the complexity of contemporary history. With it, the performers listen to the heartbeat of current events, of what is happening each day on the streets and, without fail, continually incorporate this into their audacious onstage interpretation. Motus convert the stage into a being, dominated by a choral presence, emotionally moving, which acts on a polyphonic and stratified text of a hybrid and lightning-swift nature: dialogues, interviews, solitary reflections, attempts at translation from Greek into English and Italian, audio and video fragments from the web, descriptions of atmospheres and landscapes, political statements and testimonies.

The work brings to the stage the essential relationship between art and the city as a starting point for political and social change in any society. Motus propose immersing us in Greek tragedy to take us to the contemporary crises which have for some time convulsed the major European cities. The audience is faced with open questions which demand answers about the extraordinary nature of present events, beginning with the great historical figures and stories of our past. As Motus confirms, the reality is that "Alexis is no more than a Greek tragedy of today".
