After his revolutionary Muerte y reencarnación en un cowboy (2010), the always interesting and controversial Rodrigo García visits the Festival de Otoño a Primavera again in 2015 with his latest creation, Daisy, which will be performed in the Sala Verde of the Teatros del Canal in May. With refined language, Rodrigo García’s writing stirs up our fears and unsettles our habits by laughing at what bothers and irritates us, with a raging, though also tender and naked poetry. Through his texts and his sharp writing, he shows his stupor at the absurdity of human daily activity, and he strives to tear down the walls of stupidity in a society he considers monstrous. His scenic language mixes feelings that make his faithful performers Juan Loriente and Gonzalo Cunill evolve with devastating grace, acting as performers, dancers and at the same time the director’s accomplices –also full of rage.

In Daisy we will find cockroach masonry rituals, dances with dogs, snails, tortoises and live cockroaches; there are dances with spider crabs and a string quartet that plays Beethoven, but there is also much more than meets the eye onstage: all the traces that the text manages to leave in each spectator’s mind and senses. Born in Argentina in 1964 but settled in Spain since he was young, Rodrigo García is not only a playwright, but also a video artist, performer and theatre director. An unusual creator who mixes in his work elements from the past with others from present day popular culture, he has developed an always surprising theatrical language of his own, which he will present again in Madrid with Daisy after a world tour that has taken the show to theatres in France, Germany, Spain and other European countries since 2013.

The world premiere of Daisy took place at the Théâtre des Haras de Annecy (France) on September 10th, 2013.

  • ‘Once again, the 49 year old author and director displays a unique talent in the use of paradox, bad faith, truth and imprecation’.
