The Grand Dame of Folk Music Marianne Faithfull is celebrating her 50 year career in 2014 and she’s doing it with a world tour arriving in December at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid as a part of the Festival de Otoño a Primavera. She will perform in Madrid following the release of her new album Give My Love to London on September 29th. While Marianne has written most of the lyrics, the music the album has been composed by a group of top notch collaborators: Nick Cave, Anna Calvi, Roger Waters, Pat Leonard, Tom McRae and Steve Earle, among others. The band that recorded the album is also impressive: Adrian Utley (Portishead), Ed Harcourt on keyboards, Rob Ellis on drums (for years a usual collaborator of PJ Harvey), Dimitri Tikovoi on bass, plus a string quartet. She also invited special guests for the recording, two of which were Warren Ellis and Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds).
Coinciding with this world tour, the publishing house Rizzoli will launch As Tears Go By in November. Meant to be the definitive book about Marianne Faithfull, it is signed by the artist and Salman Rushdie. It includes a personal collection of photographs from Marianne’s eventful life: her explosive success in London during the 60s, her relationship with the Rolling Stones, her work as an actress with Orson Welles, Jean-Luc Godard, Alain Delon or Sofia Coppola and her collaborations with David Bowie, Nick Cave or Beck. Marianne Faithfull was discovered as a folk singer by the Rolling Stone’s manager in a London café in 1964. Five decades later, through her music, her performances as an actress both in cinema and in theatre and her personal style, she has become an unquestioned icon for the popular culture of our time.
