El Cultural

An actor with a career spanning more than 20 years, Alex Peña has worked with directors such as Alfonso Zurro, Pepa Gamboa, Juan Dolores Caballero "El Chino" and Chiqui Carabante. Within the field of stage arts, Peña is also famous for his facet as a performer and stage creator, thanks to his experimental works with El Niño de Elche and Los Voluble, as well as creating exo-dramatic installations where he reflects on the environment of the living arts. Among his works are Santa Várbara, 970€ de libertad y artillería and the exceptional Hamlet Vending Machine. Audio teatro para robots was part of the programme at events such as ZEMOS'98 or the Seville Festival de Cine Europeo. He has also exhibited his work in spaces such as the Teatro Central of Seville or the Teatro Salón Cervantes at the Classics in Alcalá Festival.

Creator of a free and personal language, Peña ranges between artistic intervention, the object, the application, edition and performance, galloping between the plastic arts and stage content, as is the case with his Recreativos Federico, a proposal framed within the celebrations of the Lorca 2019 Year, which will be presented in the patio of the Teatro de La Abadía during the 37th Autumn Festival.Creator of a free and personal language, Peña ranges between artistic intervention, the object, the application, edition and performance, galloping between the plastic arts and stage content, as is the case with his Recreativos Federico, a proposal framed within the celebrations of the Lorca 2019 Year, which will be presented in the patio of the Teatro de La Abadía during the 37th Autumn Festival.

With his work, Peña proposes "denaturalising the form and structure of cultural consumerism and the exploitation of the artistic legacy with humour and criticism". Recreativos Federico is an EXO-dramatic installation based on a surreal imaginarium around the figure, works and context of Federico García Lorca. This interactive artistic proposal consists of a recreational hall with seven vending machines and arcade games based on this poet and playwright from Granada. The presence of sound and objects is a reflection on the popular appropriation of artistic, political and social icons of a community's historical-artistic heritage".

The user-viewer can play a "little game" of table football in The Love of Don Perlimplín with Belisa, find Bernarda Alba's fan signed by the protagonists of the tragedy in The claw of Bernarda Alba or take from the condom machine Yerma, La Nuit, the exclusive condom belonging to the protagonist of Lorca's famous drama. Blood Balls, The Women Without Hats, Cadaqués Invaders and the coin machine When Five Euros Pass make up the rest of the exhibits. "When artistic legacy becomes a souvenir, dramatic literature becomes a game", says Peña about his project.
