The Community of Madrid believes in the importance of training its talent and supports the endeavours aimed at strengthening its film and audiovisual industry through the Film and Audiovisual School of the Community of Madrid (ECAM). Our regional government also promotes audiovisual education through the Audiovisual Literacy Plan.
The ECAM aims to train the next generations in the audiovisual sector and to promote cultural activities associated with the industry. The school is located in the Ciudad de la Imagen in Pozuelo de Alarcón, where many of the relevant figures of the audiovisual industry have been trained or taught. It offers a comprehensive educational programme which also has a practical approach and is adapted to the current labour market and audiovisual industry needs.
During its more than 25 years of existence, the ECAM has trained more than 6,000 students in various disciplines, many of whom become recognised professionals. Every year more than 300 practising experts in film, television and advertising teach at the ECAM classrooms, sets and post-production rooms to pass on their knowledge to the new generations.
The Audiovisual Literacy Plan is an initiative of the Community of Madrid in collaboration with Madrid’s Film and Audiovisual School (ECAM). This ambitious programme started in autumn 2020 and will run for four years to help more than 28,000 students in the 179 municipalities of the region.
The plan offers a total of 716 free workshops for schools and high schools with the aim of bringing the audiovisual language and narrative closer to young people. In these activities, both students and teachers will be able to discover the different professions in the audiovisual sector, the importance of teamwork, the various elements that make up a film or the meaning and narrative of cinematographic language, with a practical and interactive approach.
