The Regional Department of Culture and Tourism of the Madrid Region, in collaboration with the prestigious Madrid Film School ("Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid" - "ECAM" - in Spanish) , has developed an ambitious programme to provide a series of training activities aimed at primary, compulsory secondary and higher secondary schools and their teachers. The aim is to bring film language and narrative closer to youngsters through an audio-visual literacy plan, which will serve as an educational and artistic tool that will bring film and audio-visual creation to the 179 municipalities of the Madrid Community.
This initiative seeks to influence knowledge of audio-visual language by promoting the development of a critical reading of audio-visual media as an essential pillar for understanding the environment and developing autonomy, personal creativity and social responsibility.
These free workshops for primary and secondary schools strives to help young people aged between 12 and 17 acquire basic notions of cinematographic narrative and be able to understand the importance of point of view in the representation of images, in addition to encouraging critical thinking through the analysis of images, from a technical and narrative standpoint, and promoting creativity and audio-visual production of short works.
Likewise, a feature film development programme is being carried out in collaboration with the Madrid Film School, aimed at emerging producers, directors and screenwriters residing in Spain. This programme is developed through mentoring, workshops and funding for five feature film projects with international projection, under the title of "La incubadora" (“The Incubator”). This programme has agreements with festivals and institutions such as Focus CoPro' (Cannes Festival), TIFF Filmmaker Lab (Toronto International Film Festival), Torino Film Lab Meeting Event, Rotterdam Lab (IFFR - International Film Festival Rotterdam) and EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs), Meet Them! (San Sebastián Festival), Small is Biútiful (Espagnolas in Paris) or Acción Cultural Española (AC/E).
