“With just three pieces, La Re-sentida has laid down a form of creating theatre that causes people to flee from the halls, but also to give standing ovations”.The Clinic
The company La Re-sentida has been christened as “the punks of Chilean theatre”. Established in 2008 by different artists from the South American country that aimed to break the conventionalism and conformity of bourgeois theatre, its radical productions always make an impression on their audiences. Some viewers leave the theatre in the middle of the performance, whilst others give enthusiastic standing ovations. Thanks to its transgressive spirit, it has crossed the Chilean borders, being the first national company to be invited to the Schaubühne in Berlin. Moreover, prestigious festivals such as the Festival d'Avignon and the Autumn Festival have welcomed it to their events. In Spain, its defiant work has been witnessed at festivals such as the Grec and the Ibero-America Theatre Festival in Cadiz, but its provocative productions have not yet been brought to Madrid.
For La Re-sentida, there is no place for self-complacency within the theatre, but rather it is a battlefield in which challenges reality. This spirit pervades in its début production at the Autumn Festival, which also opened the doors to Europe: Tratando de hacer una obra que cambie el mundo.. On the stage, a story is told of a group of actors that for years have been locked up in a basement far from reality, who are obsessed with creating a performance that changes society. Their confinement will be brought to an end when they receive the news that a new government has come to power and has eradicated the country’s poverty and social injustices.
With a cruel perspective of parody, this formation, led by director Marco Layera, uses said premise as a base for an innovative discourse on utopias, the value or art, dreams and failure on said premise. “We are conscious of our bourgeoisie, but this recognition grants us the sufficient lucidity to take note of the contradictions that our generation experiences. It is this contradiction that we want to emphasise and deepen, challenging our profession and our convictions”, explains the group, who question the utility and scope of contemporary art in our society.
