The Insect Train presentation in Madrid has the support of La Casa Encendida
The insects have taken over our bodies. We voluntarily offer it to them. We invited them to stay in us and invade the cultural institution that we currently find ourselves in. We do not know anything else. We have emptied our insides of all memory to leave space for the vengeance of the insects”.
Cecilia Bengolea

“Hell is on earth and nowhere else”. With this premise, Insect Train comes to La Casa Encendida at the hands of the Region of Madrid’s 36th Autumn Festival. The new creation by Cecilia Bengolea is a group experimentation about the connections that exist between nature and the human body. The acclaimed choreographers join forces on this occasion to face up to the physical limits and that which their figures represent in relation to our natural habitat. Based on imagination, Insect Train explores the transformation of the body into another being and the conscious that exceeds our known biological limits.

Cecilia Bengolea is an acclaimed creator and performer that has a particular interest for the anthropology of dance. This is so much so that her reflections on anthropological dance can be seen embodied in each and every one of her extreme representations, which are modern and primitive at the same time. The animal world is a huge fascination for her and also generates a fear that can be felt in her experimental performances. Her artistic installations and group performances have been witnessed in some of the most relevant museums and art centres in Europe, as well as renowned theatres such as Sadler’s Wells in London and the Opéra de Lyon.

The show that now premieres in Spain evokes mineral bodies that adapt to new forms of existence, investigating the relation that exists between humans and their environment. With Insect TrainBengolea recreate a sticky and infected landscape on the stage, and thanks to not just a physical display, but also a sensorial one, she is able to achieve for the status quo to gradually blur. Hybrid insects free their anchors in a mud lake where she sing and narrate her stories. And it is this atmosphere of unpredictable conditions that forces a constant and curious adaptation to the environment.
