In Triptych: The missing door, The lost room and The hidden floor, Peeping Tom reimagines the three short choreographies created, between 2013 and 2017, by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier for the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) and adapts them for this show, that will be presented in Festival de Otoño in Teatros del Canal. In a scenography which reproduces three film sets, one for each part of the triptych, the different characters will live between reality and imagination, trapped but adrift at the same time, as in a dream. If The missing door takes place in a room, surrounded by doors that do not open, and where a man is between life and death; The lost room takes place in a ship´s cabin, where there are tormented characters; and The hidden floor happens in an abandoned restaurant threatened by an inundation. These three spaces recreate a disturbing, dark and closed world, characteristic of Peeping Tom's work, from which the characters try to escape through a unique and extreme language of movement and acting, the essence of all this Belgian company productions.
Peeping Tom is a Belgian dance theatre company, founded by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier, which arrived onto the Belgian scene in 1999 with Caravana. During these last two decades the company has created a fascinating creative universe on stages around the world. Everything at Peeping Tom starts from a hyperrealist setting. The space feels familiar, such as a retirement home in Vader, two trailer homes in 32 rue Vandenbranden or a living room in Le Salon. However, they break that realism by transporting the audience to subconscious worlds and discover nightmares, fears and desires. Those disturbing atmospheres, in which they frame their reflections, with a clear cinematographic inspiration, have brought them international fame. The company has received several important awards, including an Olivier Award in the United Kingdom for 32 rue Vandenbranden, a Patrons Circle Award at the International Arts Festival in Melbourne, as well as several selections for the Belgian and Dutch Theatre Festivals.
